National Honor Society…

March 27, 2013

Last week I was in line for the copier behind our NHS sponsor. She was making copies of the applications for NHS. She was telling me that this was going to be her last year as a sponsor for NHS and asked if I wanted to be a sponsor for next year. I told her that I would think about it.

I do not know if she asked me just because I was there or if she had intended to and we happened to see each other at that moment. Either way, I decided to do it. I will not be the only sponsor, the thought if which scared me. I am looking forward to this opportunity. I had wanted to start getting more involved after this first year here and this will be great. NHS was one of my favorite activities in high school. I will also get to work with the top students in the school.

On an unrelated note, I recently found out that I will be a chaperone for prom. This should give me some interesting stories to share.

Workshop…

March 17, 2013

This weekend, I went to a workshop in Boston.  It was really good and informative.  They went all out for us and that was nice.

One of the most beneficial things that I get for workshops is that they remind me what it is like to be a student.  There are times when I get bored and times when I just need a break.  Most of the workshops I go to are workshops that I choose to go to because I am interested in the material.

Workshops make my sympathize with my students.  I get frustrated when students are not paying attention.  A lot of it stems from the fact that when they get bored, they start to cause behavior issues.  If I have issues paying attention at a workshop that I want to be at, it reminds me that I need to be more sympathetic to my students.  I get this more from workshops, because when I was in school, I was a nerd who loved school and always paid attention.

What this means is that I try to create lessons that will keep them interested and engaged.
